Raipur, March 31 (IANS) Amid rising protests, Chhattisgarh Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar Thursday announced a judicial probe into alleged atrocities by policemen in three villages in Dantewada district this month.
Kanwar made the announcement in the state assembly and said a judicial probe will make matters clear on what happened with tribal civilians in insurgency-riddled Dantewada district.
Civilians of Tarmetla and two other villages have claimed that policemen had burnt down more than 200 houses, killed a few people and even raped some women. Newspaper photographs showed scenes of houses burnt.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government had March 24 set up a four-member probe panel besides a magisterial inquiry after residents of the three villagers alleged that policemen went on a rampage between March 11-16.
