Moscow, May 1 (IANS) Firefighters have extinguished over 20 wildfires in the Russian Far East but are still battling 10 fires in the area, RIA Novosti reported Sunday.

According to Russia’s Emergencies Ministry, all the fires broke out far from populated areas. Over 400 people and 73 fire engines were battling the flames.

In the summer of 2010, an enormous heat wave in central Russia caused massive wildfires killing 62 people and leaving thousands homeless.
