Washington, May 1 (IANS) Internet hackers group Anonymous has said it plans to hack Iranian websites, CNN reported.

The group said in a statement posted on its website that it wants to use Sunday’s International Workers’ Day as an opportunity to ignite people’s protests in Iran.

It, however, did not reveal as to how the group was planning to hack the sites.

Earlier attacks by Anonymous ranged from the denial-of-service and overloading of web servers to exploitation of codes and accessing of private data.

The statement said Anonymous is known for its volunteer association with the perceived underdogs, the side that comes under pressure from the authorities.

It views the people of Iran as the next step in the wave of revolutions passing through the Middle East and North Africa.
