Amritsar, May 2 (IANS) Punjab Police Monday arrested three Railway Protection Force (RPF) constables for abducting a Chinese tourist from this Punjab city Sunday evening.
Another accomplice is still on the run, police said.
RPF constables Shivdev Singh and Surinderjit Singh were arrested Monday afternoon whereas the third accused, constable Amandeep Singh, was arrested late evening.
Yang Lulu, in her early 30s, was found in an unconscious state in a field on the outskirts of Amritsar Sunday night. She has been discharged from a hospital here after a medical examination, police said.
‘Shivdev and Surinderjit were travelling in the same train with Yang Lulu and her friend Jiang Jiali Sunday. They became friendly with the tourists and offered to accompany them to the Golden Temple here,’ Amritsar Police Commissioner Parampal Singh Sidhu told IANS.
At the Amritsar railway station, the RPF men changed their official uniform and called two more friends – Amandeep and Yadwinder Singh. They hired two taxis, one in which the two friends and the girls travelled and the other one for themselves.
While returning, they directed the taxis towards the outskirts of Amritsar, the official added.
According to Sidhu, one of the women asked them to stop the taxi to take a short break. The moment she stepped out, the two men got away with the other girl inside the car with the RPF officials following them in the other car.
Shocked at seeing her friend being forcibly taken away, the woman immediately contacted the police and a massive search operation was launched.
The abducted Lulu was found lying unconscious in a field near Amritsar, the official said.
Sources said she was given some intoxicant which made her unconscious, but the police official said they were awaiting her medical examination report and could not say if she was physically assaulted or robbed.
The two tourists had earlier visited Rajasthan and had plans to go to Himachal Pradesh, he added.
