Bhopal, June 22 (Inditop.com) Controversial godman Sant Lal Sai, who was absconding for eight months after begin accused of raping a student, surrendered in a women’s police station in the Madhya Pradesh capital Monday, police said.

“Sai, who has a sprawling ashram at Bairagarh on the outskirts of Bhopal and claims having accomplished several miracles, allegedly drugged and raped an engineering college student after which a case of rape was registered against him Oct 18, 2008,” Bhopal’s Superintendent of Police Jaideep Prasad said.

The victim alleged that she was made to consume some drug-like substance by one of Sai’s woman disciples and sexually assaulted while she was unconscious. She also alleged that in the name of spiritual realisation, her guru sexually exploited her for a long time.

Later, the probe was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), but sent back to the police after the victim protested against the move.

“During the investigations, police came to know about a number of women including a minor girl having similar complaints, who did not report the matter out of social pressure,” Prasad said, adding that Sai allegedly hypnotised and drugged his devotees and later raped them on the pretext of curing their ailments.
