Chandigarh, May 29 (IANS) Thunderstorms and duststorms followed by light to moderate rainfall lashed various parts of Chandigarh and the surrounding areas of Punjab and Haryana Sunday evening.
Though it was a scorching Sunday in the morning and afternoon, the rain made the evening pleasant here.
Met officials have predicted similar conditions to prevail in the region in the next couple of days.
‘Thunderstorms and duststorms are lashing this area, especially during the evening, for the last few days. We also had spells of isolated rainfall. This is due to the fast approaching western disturbances,’ a Met official said here Sunday.
He added: ‘Moderate rainfall and hailstorm have occurred in Chandigarh and in various parts of Punjab and Haryana. We are expecting more rains in the coming days that will also bring down the temperature.’
Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 39.4 degrees Celsius and minimum of 28.4 degrees Sunday.
Hisar was the hottest in Haryana Sunday at 42.4 degrees. Karnal and Ambala towns recorded 39.6 and 40.2 degrees respectively.
In Punjab, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala cities recorded 43.6, 41.6 and 41.7 degrees respectively.
