Lakhimpur Kheri (Uttar Pradesh), May 30 (IANS) A court in this Uttar Pradesh town Monday sentenced a South Korean couple to three months imprisonment for entering India illegally last year, an official said.
The chief judicial magistrate (CJM) also slapped fines of Rs.15,000 each on Kim Kwang Bok and Chang Hyan Jung,’ said assistant prosecution officer (APO) Devendra Kumar Mishra.
‘In case the fine is not deposited, the imprisonment would be extended by another three months,’ Mishra told reporters.
Kim and Chang were nabbed last April by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) troopers after they found them moving suspiciously in the district’s Gauriphanta town bordering Nepal.
Police arrested the two under the Foreigners Act for entering India illegally.
Lakhimpur Kheri is around 120 km from Lucknow.
