Beijing, June 2 (IANS) A 62-year-old male nurse at a seniors’ home in central China has been detained on suspicions of beating up patients and forcing them to drink urine, police said.
Zheng Huanming, the nurse at the Changleyuan Seniors Home in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan province, allegedly woke up elderly people at 4 a.m. every day and forced some of them to drink ‘yellow liquid’ from plastic bags, which a witness claimed was urine, the Yangtze Evening News reported.
A witness told police Zheng forcibly opened the mouth of the patients and poured down the liquid. When one of his victims struggled and screamed, Zheng continued to force him to drink and then laughed.
The witness, who lived in a nearby building, said he often heard screams from the nursing home. So, he went to a nearby building overlooking the nursing home one night and witnessed the abuse.
He tipped off a local television station which sent a crew to secretly film the alleged torture.
Zheng, however, told police he woke up the old people to urge them to go to the toilet so that they would not urinate in bed.
