Moscow, June 22 (IANS) Russia may ban meat import from Germany due to the spread of a deadly E.coli bacteria in Europe, Russia’s veterinary chief has said.
‘Everything will depend on the infection dynamics in Germany. In case of catastrophic developments, the ban is possible,’ Nikolai Vlasov was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
Russian veterinary authorities said livestock production in Germany was to blame for the E.coli outbreak.
The deadly bacteria has so far killed 38 people, mostly in Germany, and sickened thousands in many European countries.
The bacteria was reported to be traced to bean sprouts from a farm in Germany’s Lower Saxony region.
