Chennai, July 1 (IANS) Ford India, the Indian subsidiary of the American car major Ford Motor Company, sold 9,145 units in June 2011 including exports, the company said Friday.

A total of 8,483 units were sold in the corresponding period last year.

In a statement issued here, the company said the total sales between January-June 2011 stood at over 60,000 units as against 39,465 units sold during the corresponding period of the previous year.

‘Due to continued strong sales of the Figo, the last 15 months have been very successful in this hugely competitive market. We are extremely proud to have crossed the 100,000 sales milestone,’ said Michael Boneham, president and managing director, Ford India.

Ford India also added 14 new international markets to its export map. The new markets are Angola, Bermuda, Ghana, Iraq, Liberia, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, UAE, Zambia and Zimababwe.

Ford India has been exporting the Figo to South Africa, Nepal, Mexico, Kenya and Bahrain.

The company will eventually export the Figo to 50 international markets, reinforcing Ford India’s growing status as an exporter of both small cars and low displacement engines.
