New Delhi, July 1 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Friday asked officials to take proper care of government buildings and other assets built using public money.

Directing officials to personally ensure maintenance of the buildings, Dikshit said that the departments should not look upto the Public Works Department (PWD) for minor repairs and should themselves get this done.

‘A list of minor repairs and general maintenance may be compiled to enable the administrative departments to act freely in this regard. The departments have been asked to furnish their master plan for maintenance,’ she said.

According to the chief minister, the administrative officers can delegate powers to other officers so that immediate attention could be paid to repairs.

‘It becomes the duty of each and every officer to take note of any deficiency in maintenance and bring it to the notice of the higher officers,’ she said.

Further, the government will also consider an increase in the allocation of funds for maintenance from 2 to 5 percent of the non-plan budget.

‘In the building which houses more than one department, a particular department will be designated for maintenance,’ added Dikshit.
