New Delhi, July 2 (IANS) The heroin seized by Delhi Police in the national capital in the first six months of 2011 is three times more than the quantity recovered in the corresponding period last year, an official said Saturday.
During this period, opium seizures have grown five-fold as compared to last year, the official said.
‘We have recovered 24.659 kg heroin in six months of 2011 as against 6.079 kg heroin during the same period 2010. The recovery of opium is 50.800 kg in 2011, against the seizure of 10.720 kg last year,’ said Police Commissioner B.K. Gupta here at a press briefing.
‘In 2011 (till June), we registered 440 cases pertaining to narcotics, against 106 cases in 2010. This year we have made 511 arrests in connection with drug trafficking as against 148 in the first six months last year,’ he said.
