Kolkata, July 23 (IANS) West Bengal Minister Manas Bhunia said Saturday that his micro and small scale enterprises and textiles department is planning to set up a committee to look into the state’s textile policy.
‘We will be setting up a committee very soon to look into the entire textile policy of the state. I have discussed the matter with my officials. It will have representatives from chambers of commerce and the government,’ said Bhunia while addressing a seminar organised by the Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce here.
‘The committee will look into the problematic areas and (other) aspects of the textile industry,’ said Bhunia.
When asked if the new government has taken up with the central government the issue of withdrawal of the 10.3 percent excise duty on hosiery products, Bhunia said: ‘We are aware of the situation. The 10.3 percent excise duty was announced by the government of India. It is the whole of India’s concern.’
Bhunia said he raised the issue with the union finance ministry but was yet to get any positive response. ‘We will again raise this issue when we get an opportunity because there is a huge competition from producers from Bangladesh.’
