Jaipur, July 28 (IANS) The entire staff of a juvenile detention centre in Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur was removed and the caretaker suspended after six inmates thrashed a guard and escaped, an official said Thursday.
The incident came to light when police late Wednesday night detained two of the inmates hours after they fled from the centre. This is the third escape of juveniles from the reform centre this year.
According to police, the incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday when six juveniles thrashed an employee of the centre, Indumal Sanwaria, and a security guard.
‘They snatched the keys and escaped after opening the main entrance of the reform centre,’ a police official told IANS.
He added two of the juveniles were caught from Brahmpuri area of the city Wednesday night.
The centre’s superintendent lodged a first information report (FIR) with Gandhi Nagar police station here.
‘Fourteen juveniles have escaped from the centre this year and of them, only five have been caught. Others are still on the run,’ said the official.
Jail, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Ram Kishore Saini visited the centre and ordered removal of the entire staff. The caretaker was also suspended.
At a meeting with officials, he instructed deputing ex-servicemen for security at juvenile centres.
