Beijing, July 30 (IANS) China has successfully launched one more satellite into space from a launch site in northwestern Gansu province, a media report said Friday.
This was the second satellite launched by China this week. The SJ-11-02 orbiter was sent into space at 3.42 p.m. with help from the Long March II-C carrier rocket.
The satellite, developed by China Space Co. Ltd., will conduct scientific experiments, the company said.
The launch marked the 142nd flight for the Long March rocket family, China Daily reported.
Earlier on Wednesday, China launched a home-built global navigation satellite into orbit. A Long March rocket carried it from a launch site in southwestern Sichuan province.
The launch was part of China’s satellite navigation programme known as Beidou, which started in 2000 to break its dependence on the US Global Positioning System (GPS).
