Kolkata, July 30 (IANS) A skeleton was exhumed in a jungle under Salboni police station of West Bengal’s West Midnapore district Saturday, police said.
The ruling Trinamool Congress claimed it was that of a party supporter allegedly killed by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) men during the Left Front regime, but police said no information has been received from anyone about whose remains these were.
‘We received a tip-off from villagers that human bones and skulls were found in a jungle area. We sent our men to the spot, and exhumed the skeleton. We have started an inquiry,’ district police superintendent Praveen Tripathi told IANS.
‘But so far we have not received any complaint from anyone about the identity of the skeleton,’ he said.
A Trinamool Congress leader of Salboni said the skeleton was that of a party supporter killed by the CPI-M, but the Marxists denied the allegation.
Last month, the recovery of seven skeletons near a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader and former minister Sushanta Ghosh’s house in the same district has led to the arrest of two of his aides.
Ghosh himself has taken anticipatory bail after a villager filed a police complaint that one of the skeletons was of his father.
