Kolkata, July 31 (IANS) Seven trains were cancelled as the engine and six coaches of the Bangalore-bound Guwahati-Bangalore Express derailed and were hit by a passenger train passing on the adjacent tracks in West Bengal’s Malda district Sunday evening, a railway official said. One person died in the incident.
Seven trains which were scheduled to leave Howrah or Sealdah in the evening were cancelled.
The Hatey Bazar Express from Sealdah, the Kolkata-Guwahati Garib Rath Express from Sealdah, the Darjeeling Mail from Sealdah, the Kanchankanya Express from Sealdah, the Padatik Express from Sealdah, the Gour Express from Sealdah and the Howrah-Malda Town fast passenger from Howrah were cancelled.
Four coaches of the Azimganj-Malda Town passenger train, which hit the derailed engine and coaches of the Bangalore-bound train, were also derailed in the collision near Jamirghata station in Eastern Railway’s Malda division, said an Eastern Railways spokesman.
