Jakarta, July 31 (IANS) At least 17 people were killed in clashes between two groups of supporters of local leaders in eastern Indonesia, Xinhua reported Sunday.

The incident occurred in Puncak regency of Papua in eastern parts of Indonesia Sunday, police said.

The clashes first broke out Saturday and again Sunday morning following the rejection of local electoral commission on the registration of one of local leaders Simon Alom to join the contest for the head of the Puncak regency.
