Mumbai, Dec 12 (Inditop) The inaugural Twenty20 Champions League which was called off due after the terror attacks in Mumbai, will now be held next year in October.The tournament was originally scheduled for Dec 3-10 at three venues, including Mumbai.
The governing council of league decided Friday to cancel the 2008 edition and it will be now be held in October 2009 in India.
The council, comprising the founder board members — Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Cricket Australia (CA) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) — took the decision after considering all aspects, including the international calendar and the domestic schedules of the participating teams.
“The inaugural edition of the Champions League Twenty20 will now be held in India in Oct 2009. The governing council, comprising the founder board members took this collective decision after taking into account all aspects,” said Lalit Modi, chairman of the Champions League T20, in a statement.
Six teams — two each from the founding board members — are confirmed as participants. Other participating teams will be finalised by the end of January. Invitations will be extended to the winners and finalists of the respective countries’ domestic T20 tournaments of the participating countries.
