London, Sep 2 (IANS) A Briton, wanted in sexual abuse case, has been caught in Spain, eleven years after jumping his bail.

Sixty-year-old Lewis Knight was wanted for allegedly sexually abusing five newspaper boys and girls. He fled Britain in 2000, ahead of standing trial in Bristol after being accused of seven sex crimes involving five teenagers, The Sun reported.

Knight was accused of assaulting them while they were employed at his newsagent’s in Bath, Somerset, south-west England.

Since then the teenaged victims made further sex abuse claims against him.

Knight was arrested last week in the remote village of Torres de Segre in north-east Spain, between Barcelona and Zaragoza.

Knight, who has obtained Spanish citizenship since then, was taken to Madrid where he appeared in court and was remanded in custody.

Having been denied fresh bail, he is now expected to be extradited under the fast-track system established between Britain and Spain a few years ago.
