Chandigarh, June 30 (Inditop.com) In a desperate effort to escape from police custody, a thief jumped from the third floor of a court here Tuesday, but ended up in hospital with a broken arm and a leg.
Raja, 25, and his nephew Sunny, 20, had fled to Delhi after stealing Rs.500,000 from a car after breaking it open. However, they were caught by Delhi Police officials and were brought to the district court here Tuesday, a police official said.
“After the court hearing, Raja said he was feeling thirsty and went near the water cooler to drink water. But suddenly he jumped over the wall. His nephew also tried to run away but our officials overpowered him,” Ramesh Chand Sharma, station house officer of Sector 17, told IANS.
“Raja landed in a semi-conscious state and was caught by the police. His arm and leg have got fractured and he has been admitted to a government hospital here. We have registered a case of attempt to suicide against him,” Sharma said.
The court had sent Raja and Sunny to police remand for a day. Out of the stolen amount, Delhi Police had recovered Rs.400,000 from the two.
