Kolkata, July 2 (Inditop.com) A high intensity landmine went off in West Bengal’s Lalgarh region Thursday morning, triggering fresh tension among the security forces who have been trying to flush out Maoists from the area since June 18, police said.
“The landmine explosion took place at Jhitka forest in Lalgarh but there was no incident of firing between the Maoist rebels and security forces. No casualty was reported in the blast,” state Deputy Inspector General of Police (Midnapore range) Praveen Kumar said.
He said the police recovered some documents from the site and also got a few names after primary investigation.
“Our officers are there and we are looking into the matter to find out who were behind this explosion. We’re now trying to enhance the security system in this forest covered territory,” he said.
Kumar said the police and the central security forces, which were posted nearby the Jhikta forest area, had soon rushed to the spot but could not arrest anyone from there.
