Jaipur, Sep 30 (IANS) A group of industrialists was Friday baton charged by police in Jaipur during a protest against the Rajasthan government’s proposal to hike electricity tariff.

Under the banner of the United Council of Rajasthan Industries (UCORI), around 500 industrialists from different parts of the state blocked a busy road in front of the district collector’s office from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

‘The police had to resort to lathi charge when the protesters manhandled some senior police officers. A scuffle between the commuters who got stuck in the traffic jam and the protesters also took place,’ a police officer told IANS.

Two protesters were reported to have sustained minor injuries. The industrialists were demanding that the state government take back the proposed hike in tariff.

‘With the recent hike proposed by the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission, electricity tariff for industries in the state will become the highest in the country,’ said UCORI president T.C. Chaudhari.
