Mumbai, Nov 1 (IANS) Automobile giant Tata Motors Tuesday reported an increase of five percent in its sales, including exports for October, with 68,009 vehicles sold as compared to the 64,756 units in the like period of last year.
‘Company’s domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for October 2011 were 63,838 nos., higher by nine percent over 58,806 nos., sold in October last year,’ the auto major said in a statement.
Despite the good performance in domestic segment, the company’s exports in the period under review declined by 30 percent at 4,171 units from 5,950 units sold in October 2010.
Segment-wise, domestic commercial vehicles sales in October grew by 13 percent at 38,714 units compared to 34,328 vehicles sold in the corresponding period of last year.
The sales of passenger cars and distribution offtake of Fiat vehicles declined by three percent at 25,746 units as compared to 26,503 units in October, last year.
The standalone Tata passenger cars’ sales rose by three percent in October at 25,124 units, over October last year.
‘Indica range sales were 10,812 nos., higher by 11 percent over October last year. The Indigo range recorded sales of 6,268 nos., lower by 24 percent over October last year,’ the statement said.
Sales of the entry-level compact car Nano grew by 26 percent last month at 3,868 over October last year.
The sales of sports and utility vehicles including Sumo, Safari, Aria, Venture rose by 23 percent at 4,176 units over October last year.
The company said that its Jaguar-Land Rover cars sales continued their upward trend in the domestic market.
The cumulative sales, including exports, for the fiscal reported an increase of five percent at 467,669 units over 444,869 units, sold in the same period of last year.
‘Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal are 281,848 nos., a growth of 18 percent over last year,’ the statement added.
The cumulative sales and distribution offtake of passenger vehicles for the fiscal fell by 15 percent at 159,886 units as against 187,539 units sold in the like period last year.
The cumulative exports for the fiscal increased by eight percent at 35,249 units from 32,648 units sold in the corresponding period, last year.
