Chandigarh, Nov 1 (IANS) Punjab moved closer to its procurement target of 140 lakh tonnes of paddy with procurement agencies in the state announcing that over 100 lakh tonnes of paddy has already been procured.
Officials of the food and supplies department said here Tuesday that 100.88 lakh tonnes of paddy was procured in the month of October (till Oct 31). Procurement operations started in Punjab Oct 1.
The procurement in the same period (Oct 1 to 31) last year was only 95 lakh tonnes, the officials said.
Government procurement agencies have procured over 96.4 per cent of the paddy arriving in grain markets across Punjab.
Ludhiana, Patiala and Sangrur districts were leading in paddy procurement so far. The Punjab government has set up 1,745 procurement centres across the state.
