Chandigarh, Nov 1 (IANS) Bypolls to Ratia (reserved) and Adampur assembly constituencies in Haryana will be held Nov 30, the Election Commission (EC) announced Tuesday.
Haryana’s Chief Electoral Officer Sumita Misra said here that the notification will be issued Saturday and the last date for nominations will be Nov 12.
Counting of votes will take place Dec 4.
The Adampur seat in Hisar district fell vacant last month following the election of Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) candidate Kuldeep Bishnoi as MP from the Hisar parliamentary seat.
The Ratia seat (reserved for Scheduled Castes) fell vacant in September this year following the death of sitting Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) legislator Gian Chand Odh.
While Adampur is a stronghold of the family of former chief minister Bhajan Lal, father of Kuldeep Bishnoi, the INLD dominates in Ratia.
The bypolls will be a litmus test for Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who heads the Congress-led government in the state, as the Congress candidate in the Hisar Lok Sabha byelection had finished a poor third and even lost his security deposit.
Members of the Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement had campaigned aggressively against the Congress in the Hisar polls.
