Beijing, Nov 2 (IANS) China has relaxed its rules for army recruitment. It will now allow those with small tattoos and excess weight to enlist.
China Daily reported that as part of the relaxed rules, those with tattoos on the face or neck smaller than 2 cm in diameter will not be disqualified.
Men with up to 25 percent more than the standard weight will be eligible as compared to 20 percent last year. The rules for underweight recruits too have been eased.
China has amended its Military Service Law so that more well-educated young people can be recruited into the army.
China’s military has featured compulsory service since 1984, but it was rarely enforced due to the number of volunteers.
Chinese citizens over the age of 18 must serve in the military upon being asked to do so, says the law.
