Jammu, Nov 3 (IANS) Jammu’s students and political groups Thursday protested the National Conference-Congress coalition government’s new recruitment policy for what they called an anti-youth proposal to pay low salaries to employees on probation.
The policy, circulated by the government in Srinagar last week, suggested that salaries for probationary staff should be nearly half of the permanent employees, they said.
The protestors said the policy made five years’ service mandatory for the confirmation of the jobs of probationary employees.
Students of University of Jammu and several colleges took out processions and held anti-government demonstrations.
‘The Jammu and Kashmir government’s new recruitment policy is an assault on our hopes and a clear anti-youth policy,’ said Rajinder Kumar, a student leader.
He told fellow students that the ‘protests will continue till the policy is reversed’.
Socialist Democratic Party chief Darakshan Andrabi told reporters here: ‘The chief minister should set an example and cut down his salary by 50 percent before implementing the new recruitment policy.’
Jammu district Congress unit chief Om Chopra held a meeting at which the job policy was assailed. The meeting asked the government to review it.
