New Delhi, Dec 2 (IANS) Reservation for minorities was a commitment made by the Congress-led central government which had to be fulfilled, Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said Friday, a day after he said a share for Muslims within the 27 percent quota for other backward classes (OBCs) was being considered.

‘Reservation for minorities is a commitment we made in our manifesto and there have been consistent demands for it. So the government has decided and we are considering it,’ Khurshid told reporters outside parliament.

‘Should we not consider? If we don’t do anything, we are said to be paralysed, if we do something, we are said to be doing something not to the liking of other people,’ he said.

‘Every government cannot be like the opposition, the opposition cannot be like the government. We have to do what we have been elected to do before the five years are out, we should do what we promised,’ he added.
