Chennai, Dec 2 (IANS) A team of AIADMK MPs Friday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi and urged him to ban the controversial movie ‘Dam 999’, advise Kerala to honour its agreement with Tamil Nadu and abide by the Supreme Court order in respect of the Mullaperiyar dam in Kerala.
In the memorandum, the text of which was released to the media here, the prime minister was urged to ban nationwide the ‘Dam 999’ film ‘which is causing overwhelming fear and panic among the people and jeopardising public order by its rabble-rousing tendencies….’
The prime minister was requested to advise the Kerala government to ‘honour the rights guaranteed to the government of Tamil Nadu under the 1886 agreement’.
The MPs also wanted him to advise Kerala to abide by the Feb 26, 2006 order of the Supreme Court, desist from the approach of constructing a new dam as the present dam was functioning well and also since the whole issue was sub-judice and not to whip up fear and panic among the people of Kerala.
The memorandum said that Kerala knew ‘fully well that the dam is safe and sound’ but the ministers and officials were giving interviews contrary to the apex court’s orders that allowed increasing the water storage levels to 142 feet.
