Agartala, Dec 3 (IANS) The Students Federation of India (SFI) and the Tribal Students Union (TSU), both students’ associations of the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), have swept the students’ council polls in 15 colleges in Tripura, an official said Saturday.

The SFI and the TSU candidates defeated their rivals from the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the main opposition Congress, in 98 percent of the 527 seats in elections to 15 students’ councils Friday. The results were declared late Friday night.

‘Of the total of 527 seats in the 15 councils, the SFI won 517 seats, including all the posts of vice-presidents and general secretaries, while the NSUI bagged 10 seats,’ an official of the higher education department told reporters.

According to the official, the NSUI improved its tally as compared to last year.

At least 20 students were injured in clashes between various groups following the announcement of students’ council polls last month.
