New Delhi, Dec 6 (IANS) A 27-year-old driver has been caught here for stealing Rs.10 lakh from his Gurgaon-based employer, police said Tuesday.

On Nov 29, Dheeraj Pahwa, a real estate agent, asked his driver Shiv Shankar and another aide, Bhagwan Singh, to collect some payment from a client, a police officer said.

‘On their way back, Shiv Shankar duped Singh and fled with the money, leaving the Innova car behind. When he could not be contacted, an FIR was registered and police started investigation,’ the officer added.

Shankar was nabbed when he came to meet his brother in Safdarjung Enclave area of south Delhi Tuesday noon.

On interrogation, it was revealed that Shankar, a father of three, was in a relationship with a distant relative and was in dire need of money on that count.

‘In order to meet the requirements of his family and to maintain the relation with that woman, he was in dire need of money,’ said the officer.

A sum of Rs.6.39 lakh in cash was recovered from him. Of this, some Rs.1.8 lakh were deposited in various bank accounts.

Shankar, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, was working for Pahwa for the past five years.
