Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 6 (IANS) Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Tuesday inaugurated a ‘Green Initiative’ at the Technopark IT campus here by riding a bicycle.
‘Why not cycle for a Green Initiative’ was conceptualised by Allianz, Technopark and Technopark Today team after taking into consideration the parking woes, pollution, traffic congestion and the sedentary life faced by employees of the Technopark.
This initiative is targeted at making it easier to travel between buildings within the Technopark campus.
Any employee at Technopark can register himself for free and avail the cycles at a nominal hourly rental of Rs.2. There are cycles for both men and women and five racks with 10-12 cycles each will be parked across the campus for easy access.
‘With this initiative, we have taken one more step to make our campus greener and decongest the park. We strongly believe that this is a great step that throws light to the techies for adopting eco-friendly measures,’ said Girish Babu, CEO of Technopark.
Currently there are 245 IT firms of varying shapes and sizes, employing more than 35,000 professionals in the Technopark campus.
‘When Allianz was posed with the question: Why is there an ever increasing problem with pollution and congestion in Technopark? The organisation found its answer in ‘Why not a Cycle?’,’ said Rakesh Gupta, managing director, ACIS-A company of Allianz.
Allianz itself has over 1,100 IT/ITeS employees and offices spread across four buildings on the IT campus.
