New Delhi, July 5 (Inditop.com) The National Commission for Women (NCW) has formulated a new relief and rehabilitation scheme for rape victims, its chairperson Girija Vyas Sunday said.
She said the scheme will provide interim compensation and counselling to the victim, but not at the cost of revealing her identity.
The commission has long been demanding amendment in the present law on sexual assault as it “does not define and reflect the various kinds of sexual assault that women are subjected to in this country”.
NCW has also demanded more stringent punishment for policemen and public servants indulging in sexual assault on women and minors.
Vyas said the new rehabilitation scheme will apply to the whole country and will cut across cases in which applications have been filed by the victim or by anyone on her behalf.
