Washington, July 6 (Inditop.com) Citing the rapid growth of India, China and Brazil, President Barack Obama says in a more integrated world, it was not for the US to dictate policy around the world, but to be a partner with them.

“In terms of, I think, the US’s role in the world, obviously, we remain a military superpower. We still have the largest economy in the world. But the world is becoming more integrated,? he told Russian state-run Rossiya TV and ITAR-TASS news agency.

“You’ve got countries like China and India and Brazil that are much more developed and growing much more quickly than in the past, Obama said answering a question about America?s role in the world.

“And so I think the United States has to recognise that our role is not to dictate policy around the world, but to be a partner with other countries around the world and find those areas of mutual concern and agreement that are so important, he said.

The White House released a transcript of his interview on Sunday hours before Obama heads to Russia for his first trip as president.

Citing climate change as “a great example” of issues important to the international community, the president said: “And the problem is no one country can solve this. The United States has to take steps; China has to take steps; Russia has to take steps; India has to take steps.

“And so I hope that the United States’ role will be to help convene and moderate negotiations that lead the international community to move in a direction that’s good for all people and not just for a few,” he said.

Asked how he was trying to handle the unprecedented challenges facing him, Obama said his administration was trying to send a clear message to the American people that the problems facing the US are not going to be solved overnight, but making steady progress they can move towards the future.

“And the way that we’re trying to handle it is to send a clear message to the American people that it took us a while to get into some of these problems; they’re not going to be solved overnight, but we can make steady progress and continually improve and move towards the future.”
