Kolkata, Dec 29 (IANS) Four crib deaths have been reported in West Bengal’s Malda district Thursday, a health official said.

‘Four babies have died today (Thursday) in Malda district hospital. All of them were very ill,’ said S.K. Jahariap, Malda’s chief medical officer.

In the last six months, there have been many incidents of crib deaths in the state.

Between Oct 25 and 28, 16 babies died at the B.C. Roy Children’s Hospital – the only children’s referral hospital in Kolkata. The Burdwan Medical College and Hospital reported 12 infant deaths Oct 27-28.

Earlier in June, 18 babies had died at the B.C. Roy Children’s Hospital.

Banerjee had then ordered a probe into the matter but later gave a clean chit to the authorities.
