Chandigarh, Dec 30 (IANS) Punjab’s Sikh holy city of Amritsar recorded the lowest minimum temperature of this season as the mercury slipped to minus 2.1 degrees Celsius Friday, almost freezing the life.

Even though most other parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh were warmer with the minimum and maximum temperatures showing an increase over the temperatures since Thursday, Amritsar remained bitterly cold.

The temperature was five degrees below normal, Met Centre officials said here Friday. Amritsar had recorded a low of two degrees Thursday after recording sub-zero temperatures earlier in the week.

Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 5.2 degrees, one degree below normal, while the maximum temperature Thursday was 22.5 degrees, four degrees above normal.

Ludhiana and Patiala recorded a high and low of 21.3 and 5.2 and 22 and five degrees respectively.

Hisar town in Haryana, which had also recorded sub-zero temperature earlier, was warmer with a low of 2.7 degrees Friday, still three degrees below normal. The maximum temperature was 21.4 degrees here.

Met centre officials said that sunny weather could be experienced at most places across the two states. Fog and mist could occur at a few places in the next two days, officials added.
