Madrid, Dec 31 (IANS) Former Getafe coach Michel Gonzalez will be named as the new coach of Spanish BBVA Primera Liga strugglers, Zaragoza, after the sacking of Javier Aguirre two days ago.

Aguirre, who joined the club a year ago and saved them from relegation last season, was sacked with Zaragoza bottom of the league table with just 10 points from 16 games, five points from safety. They were also knocked out of the Copa del Rey a week ago by second division side Alcorcon, reports Xinhua.

Aguirre was handicapped by the loss of key players over the summer and the reluctance of owner Agapito Iglesias to invest in new faces and it remains to be seen whether or not the club, which is heavily in debt, will bring in new faces to add to a threadbare squad.

As well as Getafe, who he led for two seasons with mixed success, Michel, who spent his playing career with Real Madrid, has also coached Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid’s B team. He failed to earn promotion from the third tier with Rayo, while under his guidance Real Madrid B were relegated from the second division to the third level of Spanish football.

He will now become the eighth Zaragoza coach in just five years.
