Kolkata, Jan 1 (IANS) In the wake of several incidents of fire, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Sunday said an expert group will survey the unplanned parts of the city and suggest fire fighting steps.

Kolkata witnessed twin incidents of fire on the first day of the new year. No casualties or injuries were reported.

‘There are many parts of the city including Topsia, Garden Reach and Rajabazar which are tinder boxes. I am afraid to imagine what will happen if a fire breaks out there,’ Banerjee said.

‘I have talked to officials and will soon set up an expert group to carry out surveys in these areas and make recommendations for fire fighting,’ she said.

Ninety-four people were killed in the city’s AMRI Hospital fire Dec 9.
