Guwahati, Jan 2 (IANS) At least three people were injured in a powerful grenade explosion Monday at a crowded marketplace in Assam, police said.
A police spokesperson said the explosion took place around 6.30 p.m. at a busy market area in Tinsukia town, about 500 km east of Guwahati.
‘According to preliminary reports, three militants in a car lobbed the grenade and sped away before anyone could react,’ a senior police official said.
Three people waiting outside a hardware shop were injured, one of them critically.
‘A parked car and the shop was badly damaged, while one person sustained serious injuries. Two others were also injured,’ the official said.
Police suspects the outlawed anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) behind the attack.
Earlier in the day, police recovered a bomb from a passenger bus near Chabua in Tinsukia district. A suspected woman bomber was arrested.
