Kolkata, Jan 2 (IANS) Nobel laureate Amartya Sen said Monday that the Indian government should act tough on smokers to discourage them from endangering the lives of passive smokers.

‘I do believe that the government should act tougher on smokers because a smoker can’t force others to smoke passively,’ he said at a function here organised by the Cancer Foundation of India.

‘The government should make the discouragement towards smoking much stronger,’ said Sen.

Sen said that education had a lot to do in fight against cancer. He also cited a few reasons why poverty remained a problem in fighting cancer.
