New Delhi, July 7 (Inditop.com) Five people were arrested in the capital for smuggling counterfeit currency nominally worth Rs.1.57 million from Pakistan, Delhi Police said Tuesday.

“The gang of five was in regular touch with their accomplices in Pakistan and used to obtain counterfeit currency though air, road and train routes,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Neeraj Thakur said.

Shan Mohammed, 21, Mohammed Naim, 22, and Mohammed Shahrukh, 21, all residents of Ghaziabad near here, were arrested from west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden Metro Station July 1 while Vipin Gupta, 25, and Omvir Singh, 22, were caught from Jehangirpuri.

According to police, Shan Mohammed was released from Tihar Jail here three months back after two years in prison for the same crime. Naim, who was also in jail, was released in 2008.
