Sydney, Feb 2 (IANS) Over 200 people were rescued from the sea after a ferry carrying 350 people sank off the east coast of Papua New Guinea early Thursday.
The MV Rabaul Queen sank around 7.00 a.m. 16 km off the Finschhafen coast, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) said.
Eight merchant vessels were on the scene to help search survivors. A total of 219 people were rescued.
The National Maritime Safety Authority said the ferry was travelling between the coastal towns of Lae and Kimbe West.
