Varanasi, Feb 6 (IANS) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Monday said poll results for his party would be “solid” in Uttar Pradesh where elections to elect a new government begin Wednesday.
“Elections results for the Congress will be solid. People are looking up to the Congress. This is what people told us. Common man in Uttar Pradesh is telling me that they have been fooled for the last 22 years,” Gandhi, on a campaign trail in the poll bound state, told reporters here.
He said that the Congress wants to change the fate of the people and accused the previous governments of misrule.
“What is going on in UP (Uttar Pradesh) for the last 22 years is a crime, nothing less than that. That needs to be changed,” he said.
“My mission to change UP, bring development to UP,” he said, denying he was worried about election results.
“Mission 2012 is your coined term. It is not mine,” the Congress leader replied when he was asked if his “mission 2012 would be successful”.
The Gandhi scion said he would remain in Uttar Pradesh till the state “stands on its feet”.
“You will see Rahul Gandhi in villages, in slums, in agricultural fields.”
