Lucknow, July 8 (Inditop.com) Unidentified men shot at a German tourist in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur district and escaped with his bag containing some cash, passport and other documents, police said Wednesday.
“Unknown assailants early Wednesday fired at George Galose, 45, after which he was rushed to the district hospital,” Additional Superintendent of Police Ramakant Prasad told IANS over phone.
Galose, who was to visit Sulauni, a tourist spot in Maharajganj district near the India-Nepal border, had come to Lakhimpur, about 100 km from Lucknow, July 4 and was staying with a resident of Chaklakheepur town.
“Four-five men sneaked into the room where Galose was sleeping. When Galose awoke and noticed the men searching the cupboards, he raised an alarm, following which the men shot him,” said Prasad.
“We are yet to ascertain the identity of the men involved in the incident. We have detained some locals of Chaklakheepur to gather information about the unidentified assailants,” he added.
Galose was referred to the Trauma Centre of the Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU) by doctors Wednesday afternoon.
“He has received pellet injuries on his head and stomach. However, the injuries are not critical and he is out danger. He will be discharged soon,” S.C. Gopal, vice chancellor of CSMMU, told reporters.
Galose also addressed reporters after getting down from the ambulance
“I am fine,” he said.
The German also made it a point to walk to the ward instead of being carried on a stretcher to assure mediapersons that he was doing fine.
