Islamabad, Feb 22 (IANS) Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Wednesday praised his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh as a “sincere” person who desired peace between the two countries.
Gilani was Wednesday speaking to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, who is leading a parliamentary delegation to Pakistan.
“The prime minister of Pakistan recalled his meetings with the prime minister of India and said he regarded him as a sincere person who desired friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries,” a statement from the speaker’s office said.
Gilani also told Meira Kumar that India-Pakistan bilateral dialogue, which was resumed last year, had entered its second round.
The speaker said both leaders shared a “very good relationship” and have steered bilateral ties in a “positive direction”.
“India wishes to see a stable, peaceful and prosperous Pakistan,” Meira Kumar told Gilani.
Such a relationship, she said, would benefit people of both countries.
Gilani hoped that trade between the two countries would grow and contribute to trust between them.
The Lok Sabha speaker also interacted with the women caucus in Pakistan parliament and discussed the role of women parliamentarians.
The delegation also met the Parliamentary Friendship Group for India in the national assembly.
