Cairo, Feb 29 (IANS) A senior leader of terror outfit Al Qaeda was Wednesday arrested at the Cairo International Airport after his arrival from Pakistan, official Egyptian news agency MENA reported.

Seif al-Adel — whose real name is Mohamed Ibrahem Mekkawi — was tracked down after Egyptian security forces monitored all planes coming from east Asia, Xinhua reported citing official sources.
Al-Adel — once an officer in the Egyptian special forces — has been wanted in the country since 1994.
He reportedly served as a temporary leader of the Al Qaeda after founder-chief Osama bin Laden was killed in May 2011 by US special forces in Pakistan’s Abbottabad city.
