New Delhi, July 10 (Inditop.com) The state government is prepared to meet any flood like situation in the nation capital during the monsoon, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said Friday and directed the civic agencies to take precautionary measures.
Dikshit directed all construction agencies including Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Public Works Department (PWD) to remove malba (debris) at their construction sites to curb water-logging.
Dikshit complimented the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) for maintaining proper sanitation and instructed MCD Commissioner K.S. Mehra to maintain cleanliness and tackle water-logging in JJ clusters and unauthorized colonies to curb diseases like dengue, malaria and other communicable diseases.
The directions were issued after a meeting of Apex Committee for Flood Control 2009 which was attended by Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, Health Minister Kiran Walia, senior officials of NDMC, MCD, PWD, DDA, Delhi Jal Board, Indian Army, Delhi Police, civil defence and home guard and Delhi fire service.
“The divisional commissioner informed in the meeting that a round-the-clock central flood control room (CFCR) has started functioning at the office of deputy commissioner (east). A separate control room of irrigation and flood control department at ISBT Kashmere Gate has also become operational,” said an official statement here.
“Dikshit asked the flood control department to arrange well-equipped motor pumps to meet the problems related to water-logging,” the statement said.
Dikshit also issued instructions for immediate repair of damaged roads, lifting of collected silt near drains, completion of desilting exercise and deployment of health personnel.
The chief minister also exhorted all agencies to utilize this rainy season for planting maximum saplings.
