New Delhi, July 10 (Inditop.com) Friday’s sudden shower in the capital may have come as a pleasant surprise to many, but the met office said that except a few thundershowers and sporadic rainfall, Delhi is unlikely to receive heavy rain — at least until the next three days.
Catching people unawares, the brief spell of monsoon showers in the capital early in the day turned around the weather, pulling down the temperatures. The maximum temperature was recorded at 34.5 degrees Celsius, one degree below the average while the minimum was two notches below the average at 29.7 degrees Celsius.
“The rain was a pleasant surprise. It rained for some time but I wish it had poured. The summers are getting unbearable,” said 19-year-old college student Vineeta.
Scores of motorcyclists were seen standing underneath trees and at bus shelters during the rain. However, it lasted for such a short duration that the met department said it had recorded only “traces” of rainfall.
On the flip side, the rains pushed the humidity level to an uncomfortable 83 percent.
Forecasting the weather for Saturday, India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said that there is a possibility of light rain and thundershowers.
IMD director B.P. Yadav said: “The dry spell is over. However there will be no heavy rain in the next two-three days. There will be just thundershowers and sporadic rain.”
“But after that the monsoon may pick up and the entire northwest India may get heavier rainfall,” Yadav told IANS.
IMD also predicts fairly widespread rainfall over west coast, central India and the northeast. For the rest of the country it forecasts scattered to widespread rainfall.
