Lucknow, July 11 (Inditop.com) Four men who had allegedly robbed and shot a German tourist two days ago in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur district were arrested after a shoot out, the police said Saturday.
“Acting on a tip-off, we intercepted the four motorcycle-borne men near a culvert in the Sisaiya locality in Lakhimpur. The men started firing at us. We retaliated and managed to nab them after over an hour,” police inspector Sanjeev Srivastava told IANS over phone.
“The four confessed that they shot the German tourist George Galose before escaping with his bag containing cash, passport and other documents,” he added.
According to police, nearly Rs.22,000 and 235 euros were seized from the four men.
Galose, 45, who was to visit Sulauni, a tourist spot in Maharajganj district near the India-Nepal border, had come to Lakhimpur, about 100 km from Lucknow, July 4 and was staying with a resident of Chaklakheepur town.
On July 8, the four sneaked into the room where Galose was sleeping and shot him when he raised an alarm after noticing them searching the cupboards, police said.
Galose is being treated at the Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU) here and is out of danger. Lakhimpur is about 100 km from Lucknow.
